Normandy Trip

A group of very lucky children from Year 5 and Year 6 were given the opportunity to visit France to find out more about French culture and the Normandy landings in 1944.Â
The group visited Arromanches, home of the Mullberry harbour, enjoying the chance to visit the museums and also experience the town and its attractions.
They also visited Bayeux and the war cemetery, something that the children really valued and they spent quite a long time reading the graves, noting the soldier's ages and regiments, and being stunned by the sheer number of people who died during the early days of June in Operation Overlord.
The trip was rounded off with a visit to the new British Memorial at Ver-Sur-Mer, where we had the chance to look up a relative of one our party and find their name on the memorial.Â
It was an extremely memorable trip for everyone involved, and all of the children were great ambassadors for school throughout the visit.Â
They are currently completing some work relating to the visit, and will be sharing their thoughts on what they experienced on the website soon.Â
