School goes Paraloop crazy!

It has been another busy week in school with sporting events, tests, and even the culmination of Year 5′s brilliant PIE project.

Year 1 have been very busy this week with their phonics screening tests. Every member of Year 1 took the tests in their stride, confidently making the journey to the staffroom with Miss Shaw to have a go at reading some tricky words, some of which deliberately didn’t make any sense at all! Everyone gave it their best and came out smiling, but nobody more so than Archie who proudly told me that he had “Smashed it!” Well done everyone in Year 1.

The Year 1 children weren’t the only ones who were being tested this week, with Years 3, 4 and 5 doing their optional tests all week, getting to grips with reading, mathematics and SPaG. Again, everyone got their heads down and did their very best, which is all anyone can ask. I’m looking forward to seeing the results and finding out how much progress they have all made.

On the sporting front, Year 2 were lucky enough to go to a tri-golf festival on Friday, Year 5 were orienteering at Lord Lawson, and Year 6 were working with an athletics coach – so lots going on across all of the classes.

Finally for this week, we saw the first sales of the Year 5 Paraloop products which have been produced as part of their PIE project. As well as designing and manufacturing the products, the pupils turned their hands at marketing and sales this week, and sold literally hundreds of pounds worth of product – they couldn’t keep up with demand. School is also placing an order to introduce the paracord wrist bands next year as part of our RESPECT passport rewards, so watch this space. The project has been a massive success, and congratulations goes to Miss Pearson and the class. Now we have to see if our efforts have been enough to win the competition – we are already in the final, so fingers crossed!

Next week sees Shine back again, and tickets are going fast. If you haven’t got yours yet, best be quick – and if you want additional tickets for the Junior and Infant performances, the remaining tickets will go on general sale Tuesday morning at 8.40 from the school office.

I’m looking forward to yet another set of great performances where all of our children show how confident and talented they really are!

This year has seen our two new classrooms completed, giving us a fantastic new home for years 5 and 6. The new buildings are proving very popular with staff and pupils alike, with lots of room for both classes, plus an extra room for times when a little more space is required. With wifi, air conditioning and brand new resources, the two oldest classes in the school have everything they need to achieve highly.

We have just had our official opening of these fantastic new classrooms – click here to read the blog.
