It was a a golden day at the Handball Festival for schools in the Birtley cluster today as the Kibblesworth A team came out on top in a Year 4 competition. George, Matthew, Jake, Charlotte and Thomas not only won the gold medal, they also won every game they played, and didn’t concede a single goal! The whole team excelled themselves, with each and everyone involved playing an invaluable part in the success: Jake lived up to his reputation in goal by proving impossible to beat; Matthew worked tirelessly to chase down every loose ball that came his way; Charlotte blocked practically every pass and hassled and harried the opposition players throughout, and George and Thomas provided the ammunition up front by chopping in with 10 goals between them!
They weren’t the only team to excel today though – Kibblesworth B were incredibly unlucky not to be facing their classmates in the final, missing out only on goals scored to Barley Mow D. Macy, Eve, Erin, Jamie & Elena were devastated at not being able to challenge their friends for the gold, but showed their class and sportsmanship by cheering them on throughout.
A final mention too for Kibblesworth C, who came an unfortunate 2nd in their group, another team missing out on the next round by virtue of the dreaded goal difference! Abby, Owen, Sarah-Jane and Daisy even managed to do it all with one player less than their opponents!
The children suggested that we make a school handball team in the future, even offering to help with the coaching. Judging by today’s results that doesn’t sound like a bad idea!!
