Welcome to Miss Shaw’s Class
Welcome to the page of Year 1. In these pages you will find examples from some of the units we have been working on, as well as information on what we get up to, including class timetables. Please feel free to comment on any of our blogs – we love to have feedback on what we are working on.
To conclude our geography topic we went on a walk around Kibblesworth. This was to help us locate our local green space and to help create our own village map. We followed a journey from the school to the old park and then back, walking to and finding many human features to add onto our map.
During the walk we were able to find additional green spaces and Charlie showed where his grandad’s fields were. As you can see below, the Pit Wheel was a popular stop! From our walk we were able to map out our favourite features and also create a key and symbols for them. A great effort by everyone!
After the many weeks of investigating and creating mechanisms, Year 1 finally got to fulfil their design criteria brief. Everyone worked their socks off and created some imaginative and creative designs using their favourite mechanism. The criteria was that it should appeal to younger children and show a part of the Three Billy Goats Gruff story. Not only did they meet the criteria, Year 1 were extremely honest about their designs and evaluated them with areas they could improve on.
